Shopping for living room furniture can be overwhelming! There are so many different options to consider when deciding what to buy. You need to consider the space, the layout, the aesthetic, the functionality and so much more! DIY Blogger Erin Span shares this amazing infographic on how to choose the best seating for your living room:
Her tips?
1. ANALYZE YOUR SPACE
You need to consider your logistics -- can an oversized sofa fit through your door? Will it take up too much space in your room? How will other seating be arranged?
2. DETERMINE YOUR DESIGN STYLE
Take a look at a few different styles to get a better idea of what appeals to you. Once you can determine what designs you're most attracted to, you can narrow down your furniture search and have a clear direction. Some styles to consider are:
Modern
Rustic Chic
Art Deco
Modern
Traditional
Contemporary
Farmhouse
3. CONSIDER COLOR OPTIONS
If choosing a bold color scares you, you are not alone! I would highly recommend choosing a neutral color for big furniture pieces and dressing it up with bold throw pillows, blankets and decor. This way, if your taste changes, you can easily update the aesthetic without having to purchase new furniture.
4. CHOOSE AN UPHOLSTERY THAT FITS YOUR LIFE
There are tons of upholstery choices -- from linen, to leather, to microfiber to polyester-based fabrics, the options are endless. Figure out how the furniture will mostly be used -- will it be for adults or children? Are pets allowed on the furniture? Is it more for show or comfort? Choosing something that suits you and is durable / easy to clean, but still in tune with the function of the space is always a safe bet!
