Preparing Your Home For Sale: Guide and Checklist

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

When listing your home for sale, the main goal will be to sell your home fast and for top dollar! Use this guide for making sure you're showing your property in it's best possible light.

10 Tips to Improve Your Home's Curb Appeal

  1. Give your entryway a facelift with either new paint or a new front door (or both!).

  2. Landscape your yard.

  3. Make sure all exterior lights are working and replace any dim bulbs.

  4. Wash all windows - inside & out.

  5. Clean out your garage. Use a storage unit to store any non-essential items.

  6. Add a pop of color with flowers or plants.

  7. Remove lawn ornaments.

  8. Replace a worn out welcome mat.

  9. Paint or replace street numbers so they're more visible.

  10. Power wash any outdoor surfaces to give them a "like-new" feel.

10 Tips to Make Your Home Feel Like "Home" to Buyers

  1. Clean EVERYTHING!

  2. Give each room a purpose.

  3. Let the light in! Try to get as much natural light as possible - don't block windows.

  4. Fix anything that is broken. Buyers will notice if something needs a repair.

  5. Declutter your home. Thin out your closets and pantry to show how much space is actually there.

  6. Fresh paint and new carpet are the top two things you can do when updating.

  7. Organize the kitchen. Store any non-essential appliances and clean all surfaces. Don't leave anything on the counters unless you have to!

  8. Empty all trash bins and hide any dirty laundry before your home is shown.

  9. Make sure all doors open and close smoothly. Fix any squeaks.

  10. Replace light bulbs with new ones and make sure all switches work.
